Hyrox: What It Is and What to Expect from a Simulation

April 8, 2026 By The Factory Team

If you’ve been hearing more about Hyrox lately, you’re not alone. It’s one of the fastest-growing fitness races in the world and it’s gaining traction for a reason.

Hyrox brings together strength, endurance, and mental grit in a way that’s both structured and accessible. Whether you’re competitive by nature or just looking for a new challenge, it offers something different from your typical workout routine.

Let’s break down what it is and what you can expect if you step into a Hyrox-style workout.

What is Hyrox?

Hyrox is a global fitness race that combines running with functional strength movements in a standardized format.

Every race follows the same structure:

  • 8 rounds of 1 km runs
  • Each run is followed by a workout station

By the end, participants complete:

  • 8 kilometers (just under 5 miles) of running
  • 8 different functional workouts

These workouts include:

  • SkiErg
  • Sled push and pull
  • Burpee broad jumps
  • Rowing
  • Farmer’s carries
  • Sandbag lunges
  • Wall balls

What makes Hyrox unique is consistency. No matter where you compete, the format stays the same. That means your preparation—and your progress—can be measured.

What is a Hyrox Simulation?

A Hyrox simulation is a gym-based version of the race designed to replicate the structure and intensity of the real event.

It gives you the opportunity to experience:

  • The flow of alternating running and strength
  • The cumulative fatigue that builds over time
  • The mental challenge of sustaining effort across multiple stations

Depending on the format, a simulation might include:

  • Full race structure (8 runs + 8 stations)
  • Modified distances or loads
  • Partner or team variations

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s exposure.

Most people walk away from their first simulation realizing that Hyrox isn’t about going all-out at the start. It’s about pacing, consistency, and managing your energy across the entire workout.

What Makes Hyrox Different from other Workout Based Competitions?

Hyrox sits in a unique lane between endurance racing and functional fitness.

It’s not just about how strong you are. It’s not just about how fast you can run. It’s about how well you can do both, together.

You’re constantly transitioning between:

  • Elevated heart rate from running
  • Strength-based effort under fatigue

That combination challenges:

  • Your aerobic capacity
  • Your muscular endurance
  • Your ability to stay composed when things get uncomfortable

What to Expect When You Try It

If you’ve never done a Hyrox-style workout before, there are a few common takeaways and things to be aware of:

Fatigue builds quickly.
The combination of running and functional work hits differently than doing either alone.

Pacing matters more than you think.
Starting too fast is one of the biggest mistakes. The athletes who do best are the ones who stay steady.

Grip, legs, and lungs all get tested.
From sled pushes to carries to wall balls, everything adds up.

It’s as much mental as it is physical.
There will be moments where you want to slow down or stop. Learning to stay in it is part of the experience.

How We’re Bringing Hyrox to Our Gym Community

As an official Hyrox affiliate gym, we’re excited to offer a dedicated Hyrox training club for anyone interested in this style of training.

Our Hyrox club meets:

  • Wednesday evenings
  • Saturday mornings

These sessions are designed to give you hands-on experience with:

  • The movements you’ll see in a race
  • The structure of a Hyrox-style workout
  • The pacing and strategy that make a difference

When paired with our regular programming, this creates a well-rounded approach to fitness, building strength, endurance, and resilience across the board.

For those interested in competing, it’s a natural progression that helps you feel prepared and confident stepping onto the race floor.

And for those not interested in competition, it’s simply a powerful way to mix up your routine, challenge yourself in new ways, and step outside of your comfort zone.

Final Thoughts

Hyrox isn’t just a trend or a buzz word, it’s a new way to approach fitness with purpose and structure.

It gives you a clear challenge, a measurable format, and a reason to push beyond your comfort zone.

And the best part? You don’t have to figure it out on your own.

If you’re curious, the best way to understand Hyrox is to experience it. Join us for a session, see what it feels like, and discover what you’re capable of.

And if you want to dive deeper, be sure to tune in to our upcoming FactoryCast podcast, where our coaches will break down Hyrox, training insights, and what to expect from our program.

The Power of People — Why Community is a Cornerstone of Health

June 17, 2025 By The Factory Team

You’ve dialed in your macros. You’re hitting those 6 a.m. workouts. You’ve even tried meditating without checking your phone first (bravo). But there’s one crucial piece of the health puzzle that often gets left in the protein shaker: connection.

Nope—not WiFi. Human connection.

Strong social ties—whether it’s your gym buddy spotting your PR or a neighbor dropping off soup when you’re sick—are one of the most underrated drivers of well-being. Research shows that people with solid relationships are 50% more likely to live longer than those flying solo. And in the famed Blue Zones—places like Okinawa, Japan and Sardinia, Italy—longevity isn’t just about plant-based eating or daily movement. It’s deeply tied to tight-knit communities, multi-generational bonds, and everyday connection.

But let’s be clear: social health isn’t a magic bullet. It’s one leg of a three-legged stool.

At The Factory, we believe holistic health is built on three equally essential pillars: physical, mental, and social. You can’t out-benchpress burnout. You can’t cold plunge your way out of isolation. And you can’t hike your way to mental clarity if you’re emotionally running on fumes.

That’s why our space is more than just a place to sweat. It’s a place to connect, to belong, and to be seen. Whether it’s shared suffering on the turf or post-class banter that turns into friendship, we’ve designed an ecosystem where you train your body, sharpen your mind, and strengthen your people network—all under one roof.

Because the strongest, happiest, longest-living humans?
They’re not just fit.
They’re connected.

Chasing the Feeling, Not Just the Aesthetic:

March 20, 2025 By The Factory Team

Why Your Workouts Should Make You Feel Good First

We all start our fitness journeys with an aesthetic goal in mind. Maybe you want to be leaner, more muscular, or toned. Whatever word you use, the underlying desire is to look better. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that!

But here’s the catch—every time you reach a new milestone, the goalpost moves. You see progress, but instead of celebrating, you think, What’s next? You scroll through social media, comparing yourself to someone else’s highlight reel, and suddenly, your own progress feels insignificant.

That’s where we start to lose the joy in the process.

The Power of Feeling Good Over Just Looking Good

Chasing purely aesthetic goals often leads to burnout, frustration, and unhealthy comparison. But when you shift your focus to how you feel—your energy levels, strength, and ability to push through workouts—you start to appreciate the journey more.

There’s a reason people who truly love training stick with it: they genuinely enjoy the process. It becomes about performance, confidence, and well-being, rather than an impossible, ever-changing standard of physical perfection.

At The Factory, we see it all the time. People walk in with the goal of losing weight or getting more defined, only to find that what keeps them coming back is how much better they feel. Stronger. More capable. Less stressed. More confident in their daily lives.

Finding the Balance in Your Lifestyle

Of course, progress requires change. That might mean cutting back on processed foods, drinking less alcohol, or prioritizing sleep. But what happens when your fitness goals start interfering with your social life?

If every hangout with friends becomes a battle between restriction and enjoyment, that’s a sign you’re tipping too far into obsession rather than sustainable change. The key is to make better decisions, not extreme ones.

  • Instead of cutting out social events, choose healthier options when eating out.
  • Instead of completely avoiding alcohol, set a personal limit that allows you to enjoy without derailing progress.
  • Instead of punishing yourself for a weekend of indulgence, get back to your routine and trust the process.

Assess Where You Are—Not Where Someone Else Is

If you’re feeling unhealthy—physically, mentally, or socially—then yes, it’s time for a shift. But if your overall well-being is in a good place, be mindful of chasing an aesthetic that forces you into a lifestyle you don’t actually enjoy.

Your health is multi-dimensional. Don’t sacrifice one part of it just to look a little leaner.

At the end of the day, it’s not about chasing perfection—it’s about chasing a lifestyle that makes you feel strong, confident, and happy.

The aesthetics? They’ll come as a byproduct of consistency and enjoyment.

So ask yourself—how do you feel?

That’s what really matters.
